Making It RealReviewed by Lynn Reynolds

This is told in the first person.

Mary is seen posting in a forum called ThirtySomething. She finds someone that intrigues her, William Blake. We see that Mary is part of the wait staff at a local café and William is a young successful businessman. She’s also trying to write a novel.

While trying to write, and post to the forum, Mary has a fantasy about William – it’s very hot and sexy. We find that their “relationship” is long distance – she from England and him from America. They’ve been corresponding for a while and then she talks him into having some cyber-sex – don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it. Victoria writes one very hot scene there. It gets your own imagination going. She also surprised me in how she ended the scene.

There are a couple of sentences in the story where Mary talks about being an author. I almost think that this is actually Victoria talking. As a reader, we always wonder about the author that we’re reading.

There is a spanking scene within the story. If spanking is not your scene, don’t let that stop you from reading this story. It is very tastefully done. It will not offend. In any story that I have read of Victoria’s, her sex scenes are never over the top and don’t leave you wondering if that is even possible.

You will be surprised by a lot of the cyber-sex scenes by William and Mary’s alter egos. They will feed your romantic and hidden erotic side. It’s also interesting to see a little role reversal – you’ll understand as you read exactly what I mean.

Victoria writes in a scene where Mary and William have a picnic on a bed. It’s a very decadent scene. What a way to have a romantic interlude. It also may enrich your love life. This is also something I love about Victoria’s work; she certainly knows how to feed her reader’s imaginations.

She’s a great storyteller. Most of her female characters are Rubenesque but they are written for the women that are currently out there. They are not the thin model types that none of us can aspire to. We all have to love our curves.

Even though this is a story set around Christmas time, you could definitely change the setting to Valentine’s Day. It’s a story that you could read at any time of the year. Victoria also gives us a very surprising ending – totally unexpected. You will definitely want to read this story.

Rating: ★★★★½

For my PsychologyToday.com blog, I did some research on men’s wishes. The surprise? They were not all looking for sex, and money never entered into the picture. Unforntunately while men are looking for love, marriage seems…

Keira: On your website, Believe It or Not is described as “It’s your typical “reluctant fake psychic” meets “jaded owner of a male strip club” love story. With a twist.” Humor is definitely a role in your writing! How do you get your material?

Tawna Fenske: Everything around me is a source of inspiration for writing humor, but I sometimes have to look for it. I’m a natural introvert, so I’ve learned to be vigilant about dragging my lazy self out of the house to experience something besides the squish of the chair under my butt. There was a period where I tried to do the full-time writer thing, but I realized pretty quickly that my brain shrivels up like castrated sheep testicle when I don’t have regular human interaction. I now work part-time in marketing/PR where there’s plenty of day-to-day silliness to inspire me.

Keira: What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever said or had happen to you?

TF: You mean like the time I attended a fancy luncheon where I spit gristle into my napkin, accidentally dropped it into the purse of the woman seated beside me, and got busted trying to retrieve it? Or the time I waxed off a hunk of my eyebrow and tried to draw it back in with green eyeliner? Or the time I shoved a massive spoonful of butter in my mouth at a formal dinner because I thought it was whipped cream? Or the time I threw up in my underwear at school? I’m pretty much a magnet for ridiculousness, but it gives me good fodder for writing comedy.

Keira: In relationships, what’s better? Normal or weird? And Why!

TF: Very few things in my life would fall under the heading “normal,” particularly relationships. For that, I am eternally grateful. Normal would bore me to tears!

Keira: How do you define love?

TF: I have to define it? How about if I just spell it, use it in a sentence, and then roll around naked with a guy who has killer shoulders and a great laugh?

Keira: As an avid globe-trotter, what has been your favorite place to travel? Your most memorable experience?

TF: I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some truly amazing places in time on this planet. I’ve visited Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, Barbados, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, and probably a bunch of places I’m forgetting but surely loved anyway. I hesitate to pick a favorite among them because I’ve adored different things about each of them. One of my top memories is the time I rode a camel into the Sahara desert at sunset and camped there overnight. I love new experiences and cultures, and I’m always itching to shoulder my pack and visit someplace new.

Keira: What’s a question you always wanted to answer but haven’t been asked yet?

TF: I’m always amused by awkward personal questions like my age (37) or weight (119 pounds) or whether my boobs are real (yep). When I do public speaking engagements, there’s always someone in the audience who asks a variation of the question, “do you test out all your love scenes?” I love this! Do people ask crime writers whether they’ve killed someone with a switchblade to ensure they got the details right? I guess I can’t speak for crime writers, but I sure do enjoy making sure all my scenes are as accurate as possible.

Praise for Believe it or Not:

“Fenske hits all the right humor notes without teetering into the pit of slapstick in her lighthearted book of strippers, psychics, free spirits and an accountant.” —RT Book Reviews

“Snappy, endearing dialogue and often hilarious situations unite the couple, and Fenske proves to be a romance author worthy of a loyal following.” —Booklist starred review

“Fenske’s sophomore effort (after Making Waves) is another riotous trip down funny bone lane, with a detour to slightly askew goings on and a quick u-ey to out-of-this-world romance. Readers will be enchanted by this bewitching fable from a wickedly wise author.” —Library Journal

“Sexually charged dialogue and steamy make-out scenes will keep readers turning the pages.” —Publishers Weekly

The Follow Through

AskMen: How do you feel about kissing on the first
date?
Doutzen Kroes: If you both feel
it? Yeah, sure. Lindsay Ellingson: Don’t go for the kiss
until the third date. It’s just way too soon.AskMen: Being in a
relationship, how important is it to set aside time with your
husband?
Adriana Lima: Being married, it’s
very important to find time for the relationship every day — even if you just wake up in
the morning and have 10 minutes for a cup of coffee together. You can keep yourself
connected and keep the relationship alive.

The Untimely Shank

AskMen: Let’s talk about a time when things went
wrong.
Lindsay Ellingson: I met this one guy for a drink at
a Korean barbecue place, and they were cooking onions, so the entire date I was crying.
And it was just so bad — I was not into him at all, I knew immediately. So I just had to
suffer through my eyes tearing up for, like, an hour. I didn’t want to be rude. AskMen: What should a guy definitely not do on a
date?
 Doutzen Kroes: You shouldn’t talk
too much about what you have. Sometimes guys can talk so much about how much money they
have. You should just be yourself. That’s what you want to see in a girl, so that’s what a
girl wants to see in a guy, too. Lindsay Ellingson: I
really can’t stand cocky
guys. Intelligence is important. I love nerdy guys — love. And when a guy is really
into pets and family, that’s sweet.

Dating & Sex on AskMen

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino knows that for a good night’s sleep, the
ladies he’s brought home need to vacate the premises post-coitus. Apparently
he’s not the only one who’s figured out that sleeping alone equals better rest and
better sex.A new survey of 1,192 from MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has found that 1 in 10 couples who live together
sleep separately. As the study delved into the relationship habits of those individuals,
it was discovered that 19% of them sleep
separately for a better sex life. The top reason for sleeping separately
was snoring (24%) and better sleep (23%), followed by better sex. The latter two are
really connected, as better sleep leads to a better life all the way around. Previous studies have shown that people who sleep better are more
rested and more energized for sex.The only problem is that most of us
aren’t cold, calculating douchebags like The Situation. We’re currently
working on a how-to guide along the lines of “Successfully Convince Her To Sleep In
Her Own Bed.”The stakes are high: Failing to convince your wife to
bounce to another bed could result in more than just a bad night’s sleep.
